It is hard to imagine life without the PC or personal computer.  Computers and the internet have totally changed the way we search and find information compared to the ways we were fifteen years ago.  Most households now own at least one personal computer but with the way costs have decreased on computers, especially laptops that this number has increased. This shows the changing attitudes towards computers and they way they are being used.  The question is are schools embracing the computer and the internet revolution like the rest of society and what does the education system think of the role computers will play in the future of schools.

It isn’t that schools are not embracing computers into their teaching but more likely the teachers are making slow progress in learning the basic computer skills, which is totally understandable considering the amount of work they have to do already.  It would worthy to train teachers who are not particularly computer literate on the basic working and usage of computers.   

Millions is of pounds is spent each year installing computers into schools and on training, approximately 650 million, a large chuck of this money comes from the lottery.  But the funding has been criticised by Ofstead because of the selection of services that are on offer at schools. It is important to understand that each school is different and each pupil is different and teaching needs to be tailored towards the strengths of that school and it pupils.  There clearly still needs to be time given to normal studies like reading and writing but what if the information on subjects is easy to access and directly available on a computer it is necessary to get these tools into a classroom to make the education experience more interesting and enjoyable.

Clearly there is still a lot to do.  If there are mass rollouts of computers into our schools there will be a need for policies to be put in place so the system is not abused and the IT technical support structure will also need to be improved
