Reading Clubs

Reading clubs or book clubs are for people who wish to meet other book enthusiasts and discuss a book or books as a group to express their opinions, likes and dislikes of those particular books. Book clubs can also be known as reading groups, book groups or book discussion groups and can meet just about anywhere, like their own homes, libraries, pubs, village halls and social halls or even online as part of a book discussion forum.

There are a wide range of book clubs out there to suit all tastes and reading ability. Single book clubs will generally focus on one title of book which the whole group will read at the same time. Although they will not read to book together they will be asked to complete a certain amount of the book and then discuss this subject at their next meeting.   For avid readers the books will usually be new titles to make sure very few if any people in the group has read the book.  It helps if the people in these groups are of similar education and skills as discussion on subjects can lead to conflicts of interest as people have very different expectations as what points they wish to make.



Multi-title clubs operate in a completely different way.  Each member of the club reads a different title and once finished pass the book on to the next person.  This can create pockets of discussion between the members who have already read certain titles and others that have read another before finally they have all read their own respective books.   This form of book club is very popular although you may well end up reading a title you have very little interest in.

Book clubs are a fantastic way to improve your reading and grammar as well as your discussion skills.  It’s education in a fun group environment for all ages.
