Training

Training to be a teacher is not just about studying and learning the knowledge of the subject they wish to teach. Teacher training is about policies and procedures that are there to supply teachers with the skills to perform their job correctly equipping them with knowledge, attitudes, manner, posture and feelings to effectively teach in a classroom atmosphere.

Teacher training is often separated into several different areas.  The first is the teacher training which is required before they actually enter a classroom to begin teaching. Secondly there is the induction which is there to offer support, guidance and training through their first few years of teaching in a school environment.  Third is the development process, something that all teachers must continue through their careers.

Rather than calling it teacher training, which is considered in appropriate today we now refer to this subject as teacher education.  Continuous mentoring will also continue through a teachers working life.

There is much debate over of what attitudes and skills teachers should have to do their job to the best of their ability.  It is easy to understand why there is this concern with a teacher’s role, as apart from the parents themselves, teachers are trusted with the main part of a growing child's education, and have a large influence on the child’s behavior and attitudes.
